Fellow, 2000-2001
One-year sabbatical awarded to mid-career professional print and broadcast journalists,
allowed me to conduct independent study on freedom of expression and modern art.
Participated in seminars with notable persons including newsman Mike Wallace, NPR
President Kevin Klose, philanthropist George Soros, artist Hans Haacke, and others.
Lectured on contemporary art to MFA students in the School of Art and Design. Immersed
myself in the citys cultural life, read widely, practiced figure drawing, and
