New Appointments at the Metropolitan, Whitechapel, Sotheby’s et. al.

The Met, Whitechapel, Sotheby's and other institutions announce appointments.

Elizabeth Mankin “Betsy” Kornhauser, chief curator and curator of American painting and sculpture at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT, has been named senior curator of American painting at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, effective September 1, where she will be involved with  reinstallation of the American paintings collection, slated for completion in 2011.

Xavier Salomon, chief curator at London’s Dulwich Picture Gallery, joins the Met in January as curator of European Paintings.

Jennifer Perry, associate conservator for Asian paintings at the Cleveland Museum of Art, has been named conservator for Japanese paintings at the Met, effective September 13.

Daniel Herrmann, curator of the Paolozzi Collection and 20th Century Works on Paper at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, has been named Curatorial Programme manager at Whitechapel Gallery in London. and Kirsty Ogg as Curator. Kirsty Ogg, former director of The Showroom space in London, dedicated to commissioning emerging artists, has been named curator at Whitechapel.

Priyanka Mathew, director of the Manhattan- and Palo Alto-based Aicon Gallery since 2005, will join Sotheby’s in early fall as a specialist in their Indian and Southeast Asian Department.

Christy MacLear, executive director of the Glass House, a compound of Philip Johnson-designed buildings in New Canaan, CT owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, has been named executive director of The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.

Toby Kamps, senior curator at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston for the past three and a half years, has been named curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Menil Collection across town, effective September.

Irene Hofmann, director of the Contemporary Museum in Baltimore since 2005, and former curator at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, CA, has been named director and chief curator of Site Santa Fe, effective October 1, 2010.

Lynette Roth, curator of a 2008-09 traveling show on the Cologne Progressives, has been named associate curator of the Busch-Reisinger Museum, the division of The Harvard Art Museums dedicated to art of the German speaking countries. She assumes the position on January 3, 2011. 

Kelly Baum, a curatorial fellow for Contemporary Art at Princeton University Art Museum, has been named the institution’s first curator of Modern and Contemporary Art.
